Housing and Rental Education

Housing and Rental Education

Housing and Rental Education seeks to empower families and individuals to move toward self-sufficiency by providing the knowledge and tools necessary for home ownership and rental relationships.

Community Progress Council offers Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PFHA) approved homebuyer education workshops, which are a pre-requisite for several housing assistance programs such as First Front Door, Keystone Advantage, PHFA mortgage options and York Homebuyer Assistance Program (YHAP).

All workshops are conducted by HUD Certified Housing Counselors.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Fair housing and fair lending
  • Credit reports and scores
  • Types of mortgage programs available
  • How to apply for a loan
  • Homeowners’ insurance
  • How to choose a Realtor
  • Entering into a sales agreement
  • What a home inspection entails
  • Going to closing/settlement

Attending homebuyer education classes does not automatically qualify applicants for Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, First Front Door, Homebuyer Advantage Plus Mortgage, Destination Home Mortgage or Dream Maker. Contact your lender for complete qualification criteria.
