Community Action Month, observed each May, is a time to recognize the nationwide Community Action Network and the role we play in helping families move toward economic independence.

At their April 29 meeting, the York County County Commissioners formally recognized May 2026 as Community Action Month, and expressed their support for Community Progress Council and our impact in York County.

Thank you for recognizing the dedication of our team and the power of  Community Action to interrupt generational poverty, expand opportunity, and help families thrive.

Just a few days later at York City’ Council’s May 5 meeting, we had another chance to reflect on Community Progress Council’s role in creating pathways to sustainable economic progress.

Thank you to City of York City Council members and Mayor Sandie Walker for also presenting a proclamation to affirm Community Action Month and Community Progress Council’s impact in serving families in York City and beyond.

Community action is built on a fundamental belief that poverty is not a personal failure, but a community challenge that requires coordinated solutions. We are grateful for our strong partnership with the City of York and County of York to build a community where opportunities are accessible and families can achieve self-sufficiency.
