Community Progress Council (CPC) is pleased to announce it has been awarded a grant from Truist Foundation in support of the Housing and Financial Education program, which works with individuals and families of all income levels to help them meet their financial goals.
More specifically, this Truist Foundation grant will support expanding the shared financial literacy framework between Community Progress Council’s coaches and its HUD-certified housing counselors.
“Financial instability and housing challenges play a significant role in shaping people’s health, often leading to challenges in other essential areas like employment, access to food, and healthcare,” explained Ruth Robbins, Chief Program Officer at Community Progress Council. “Strengthening a shared understanding of the ways that barriers intersect will empower our coaches and our housing counselors to better serve families as they move through their journey toward self-sufficiency.”
At Community Progress Council, coaches serve as the main relationship for participants as they establish stability and work toward short- and long-term goals. Oftentimes a participant’s coach will initiate a conversation around budgeting, spending habits, or financial goals, then connect them to CPC’s Housing and Financial Education team for deeper learning.
The Housing and Financial Education team offers first-time homebuyer workshops, counseling, and education; default and delinquency and foreclosure intervention; renter education and counseling; and financial literacy, and credit and budget education and counseling, to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to achieve long-term housing stability.
“This grant will directly support low- to moderate-income adults working to overcome financial barriers and build career pathways,” said Robbins. “This comprehensive, integrated approach is the cornerstone for how we approach our work with families, and we’re proud that Truist Foundation recognizes the importance and impact of these services for our community.”
“At Truist, our purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities, and that starts with ensuring all people have the knowledge and tools to achieve financial and housing stability,” said Truist Market President Dan Belk. “Through our support of Community Progress Council’s Housing and Financial Education program, we’re proud to invest in solutions that help individuals and families strengthen their financial foundation and move toward long-term self-sufficiency.”
In the 12-month period ending September 30, 2025, CPC’s Housing and Financial Education team helped 562 people gain the knowledge and skills to become financially empowered and meet their housing goals, including:
- 224 households who developed a customized budget with their counselor’s input
- 103 households that gained access to improve their housing situation
- 14 households that engaged in homebuying counseling and then purchased a home
- 59 households that prevented foreclosure after receiving housing counseling services
Housing & Financial Education programs are offered free of charge to individuals and families at all income levels.
